PAY IT FORWARD

This site is free. Here's the deal.

Everything on HonestStudyAbroad costs you nothing — no fees, no commissions, no catch. The price is simple: if this site helped you get into a good university or land a job, you come back and mentor the next person. One chain, person to person. That's how this stays free forever.

1

You made it

You used the guides, the finder, the checklists — and got the admit, or the job, through honest work. Not a bought admit. Not a fake SOP. The real thing.

2

You sign up below

Where you are now, what you can help with, 1–2 hours a month. Topics you choose — nobody assigns you anything.

3

We screen & match

A human reviews your application and cross-checks it. Then you're matched 1-on-1 with someone standing where you stood a year or two ago.

4

They make it too

And when they do, they mentor the next one. The chain only works if every link holds — including yours.

Who should mentor

Not "experts." People one step ahead. If any of these are you, you're qualified:

You don't need ten years of experience. You need to be one honest step ahead of the person you're helping — and willing to say "I don't know" when you don't.

What mentors actually do

What mentors never do

No ghostwriting SOPs. No fabricated LORs. No "guaranteed admit" promises. No doing someone's application for them. The day a mentor writes someone else's story, the chain is worthless — and they're out.

What mentees get

A real person who's been where you are, matched to your field and stage — free, always. Not a counsellor with a sales target. Not a brochure. Someone with nothing to sell you, because the only currency here is the chain itself.

How matching works

There is no public mentor directory — that's deliberate. Mentors volunteer their evenings, so their identities stay private until a match is made. Every application is screened by a human and cross-checked; only genuine applicants get introduced. No browsing, no cold DMs, no wasted evenings on either side.

Fair questions

Is it really free for students?

Yes. Matching is free and always will be. Mentors volunteer; nobody here earns a rupee from a student.

Why should I mentor instead of just donating?

Because an hour of your honest experience is worth more to one student than money is to this site. And the chain is the point: free guidance paid for in guidance.

What if I'm only one step ahead?

That's exactly who we're looking for. A second-year MS student is the perfect mentor for an applicant. A new SDE is the perfect mentor for a final-year undergrad.

Can I browse the mentor list?

No — mentors' identities stay private until you're matched. Tell us your real question; if it's serious, you'll get a real person.

How do you verify mentors?

Every mentor application is reviewed by a human and cross-checked (LinkedIn, admit proof, or employment proof). Fake profiles don't make it through.

What if a mentor gives bad advice?

Mentors are people, not oracles — and they're told to say "I don't know" rather than guess. Cross-check anything that decides money against official sources, and tell us if someone oversteps. Ghostwriting or guarantees get a mentor removed.
