Learn free · Beyond the degree
Every resource below was verified in September 2026. We tell you exactly what's free, what costs, and — most importantly — what employers actually respect. Because a certificate nobody values is just a PDF you paid to print.
The uncomfortable truth about free certificates
Recruiters do not hire certificates — they hire proof of work. The free resources below are excellent for learning; the ones worth listing on a résumé are the ones that end in a project, a portfolio, or a proctored exam. We rate each one: STRONG (recruiters actively screen for it), SUPPORTING (good learning, modest résumé value), or SIGNAL-WEAK (learn from it, don't lean on it).
Tax-funded, no catch, certificates carry government weight on a résumé:

1. Pick ONE track
Cloud (AWS), CRM (Salesforce), code (freeCodeCamp/Odin), data (Kaggle), or govt-certified (NPTEL/PMKVY). Language-shopping every week is the #1 reason people quit.
2. 70% building, 30% watching
If you spend more than 60% of learning time watching lessons, flip the ratio. Projects on GitHub beat certificates on LinkedIn.
3. Certify only what recruiters screen for
AWS, Microsoft, Salesforce, NPTEL proctored exams, Google certs — yes. A random "completion certificate" from a paid course aggregator — the learning helps, the certificate doesn't move the needle.
